Wow, I haven't been here in a while. I didn't know there was so much going on. I can't spend much time on the computer. I just checked here now because I got an email about John Geeks post. Here's part of my response to the email:
Yeah, the reason the entire CD isn't already on my web site, or whatever web site that wants it, is because I'm an idiot and I don't know how to make MP3s. Brad and Craig were nice enough to post some MP3s on my site a few years ago, but I don't know how that was done. Also, the songs are Hickeys so making everything available on MP3 is up to them.
The only reason I like selling Hickey CDs through the Probe site is because it's almost the only thing people actually bother to order and I send off their order with extra Ringwurm and Death to False Metal CDs. People who pay high prices on ebay for the Probe CD just aren't looking. I used to post it myself for $6 and send it with extra stuff, but I didn't keep updating it. A guy from a record label asked about re-releasing both Hickey CDs, which would be fine with me, but he didn't sound like he wanted to do the booklet. He wanted to do both together. I told him the booklet was essential -Matty spent more time on that than the songs- and he'd have to talk to Aesop about any collection of songs.
The Hickey curse never got the Probe. That was smoothest release I ever had, everything went right.
Yo Bitch,
I just scored a sewwt rekerd the other day. It was the LP. Now I have two. So me and all my anal retentive gen x bullshit record collectors can go out and celebrate! Woo-Hoo! I dun paid forty bucks and two Rancid 7 inches for that some bitch! Yall Herd? RECOGNIZE. I GOT 2 copies fools..This Petroleum phosphate shit is gold. Im bout to download a juicy turd on this piece of Jeff Ott shitstain underneath me, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! BOOOOOO-YA!
Pasty and fiscally yours,
Beardedpete@hotmail.com
I just wanted to say something real quick about the whole ebay thing with all the out of print Hickey/Fuckboyz/Off Da Pigs/Yogurt/etc. records...I think it's kinda gross when these pasty fucking fiscally solvent record collector pigs pay stupid amounts of $ to get good old records they will likely never even listen to for fear of depreciating thier value. It's interesting the way that vinyl, a petroleum product, is subject to wild fluctuations in value artificially set by a small cabal of "experts"...much like oil itself. But I digress. The thing I am posting about is the access, or lack thereof, to important music made by the extented Matty Luv/Hickey diaspora. The fact is, this shit is far too good to be compartmentalized into little genre-based collector circles. More people, even a whole new generation, want to and should be able to hear this stuff.
What seems to be the Hickey curse with regard to their recorded material is true, true, true...The collective record label I used to be head coordinator at (SPAM Redcords) rereleased "Various States Of Disrepair" about a year after I quit, and the label itself folded about 8 months after "V.S.O.D." was rereleased. A similar thing apparently happened with Poverty records as well, Chewy's label which originally released the record. Probe went out of business not too long after reissuing the eponymous LP on CD. Do you see a trend here?
First off, I wanna say I feel bad about the SPAM thing. I really wish I had had the time and resources to jump in and help save the damned label, but it had simply become too much of a big ball of dangerous shit to even approach at that point. That being said, let's talk about access to important music - and let's make no bones about it, Hickey was important music that was meant to be heard.
People should be able to get these records. There are still copies of V.S.O.D. around, and supposedly the guy from Defect-O records was going to sell them (and other SPAM releases left in limbo) from his website, on good ol' cheezy interpunk, and at tables for shows. Also, Alternative Tentacles said they would carry certain SPAM releases through their mailorder, including Hickey. Does anyone know how to get ahold of the Defect-O kid? Email me if you do, I'd really appreciate it. Also, Craigums has a bunch of CD copies of the self-titled CD around that he sells at shows. I don't know how many are left, but I'm sure A.T. would carry those too. Craig, whaddaya think? Aesop, whaddaya think of all this? Chubby and Rizzler, do you ever look at this crazy web bullshit? What do you think?
My big question, though, is WHY is there only like one MP3 available for any one of these given releases? If you guys are waiting for a new deal or whatever so you can get paid and all I understand, but Aesop, your last message didn't seem to indicate that you had any problem with this stuff getting around by any means necessary. So why can't there be an MP3 for every damned song listed on this site? I have the equipment at home to convert records, cds, and tapes into MP3s...and yes, it physically pains me to compress vinyl into a crappy little bunch of ones and zeroes, but the fact is that most people have access to a computer or cd player these days, and if they don't have a cd burner one of their friends do. I go on tour and people all over the country want damn Hickey recordings, and I think they'd be happy with an MP3 if that's what they can get. If people can at least hear this music, for free, then let the anal-retentive gen x bullshit record collectors fight over a fucking $200 7". At least the songs from it can be heard for free (or cheap).
I'd be happy to convert the 7"s I have to CDR, plus Mark Beef gave me a copy of the Tucson radio show that I could upload. Is it a bandwidth issue? Because if it is, I'll create HICKEY I, HICKEY II, HICKEY III, etc. crappy-ass myspace accounts which allow you to put up 4 songs each for free so people can download this stuff easily. Ideally, though, it should be on this site. Am i out of line? The surviving members of Hickey should be paid for this stuff, after all, but man it really sucks that people can't access this music...I dunno, email me or post a response here and tell me what you all think.
The Naked Cult lives on. Deal with it.

i've recently uncovered two of matty's paintings and scanned them both. here's one of them (reduced-actual size is about a foot wide). i'll send larger more hi-res scans to post in some other section. i have lots of interesting artifacts and pictures and music so i'll be periodically posting other stuff too. but most likely not until after july.
Yesterday someone ducked taped a bunch of flowers on the small matty rip mural that andy did on Clarion & valencia, it was really sweet.
all of you ebayers suck
I WAS JUST READING ON THE PROBE SITE 'BOUT SCOTTY FROM RUDIMENTS.
ANY NEWS?
hey can anyone hook a brotha up? me and my friend are lookin for some dr. dre del shit... if anyone can dub me some, point me somewhere, etc, i'd greatly appreciate it!
Most of my life goes on a skateboarding messageboard now. Its called Dlxsf.com. I do regular blogs there and shit lately. Telling the owner to go fuck himself and stuff ruining the chances of snob elbow rubbing friends also from Tulsa that are trying to climb the corporate skateboarding ladder. some of them are pro just most of them are moronic. As long as no passwords exists everything is a go. If you feel like editing this please feel free to do so. I dont know if there is enough bandwidth to deal with my tirades. When I moved to Portland, I had been living in Oakland and austin in search of any Hickey records that I could find to replace the ones that I bought or were given to me. I got pretty fanatical about it because it is not just music. Its art. Its mattys art and hes not around anymore. I had nothing. recordings are good and all, and Im not trying to say that people oughtta say that something should be worth more cause the person that made it isnt around anymore or whatever, and I apologize. Its my fault that the records are selling for so much now. I had four or five friends that had the Lp and noone was willing to sell it for even 5 hundred dollars. It sounds insane that you would pay that much for something like that and all and that noone would even sell it. Kids that werent even that into it. Its like I gave everything away that I had as a teenager in hopes of replacing it later. Like they would be around forever sitting in dollar bins. Taking shit for granted I visited every record store in Oakland san fransisco, Austin, San diego etc. to no avail. and Im glad that they are rare. And Im glad they cost so much and I hope that others kick themselves in the ass when they sell that for a dollar at amoeba or everyday. I took those records for granted. Theyre worth way more than what they sold for on ebay and I would have bid on all of them fifty or more if I didnt have beloved friends that humor something as stupid as trying to get back something that meant a lot. It is good to be modest and say that it should be free to everyone and all that and I hope kids get turned onto it later. But with me it was something that I remember real good. I laugh at bands that put out records that end up in dollar bins every where. and it would be a mockery, an injustice and literally impossible to replicate. Making recordings is good and if you want to re release anything I will be happy to pay for all of it and make sure it is done right. I think it is asthetically bad. I dont know. Im lucky. my best friend in the whole world gave me the lp on my birthday. On the back of the record it says #1100 of 1100 so thats how many there were. And then you see kids with ebay user ids like fifteenrules bidding 120 dollars on a record they prolly never even heard before. That part is disgusting. Recently I got a heads up that a hickey record showed up at this record store called discouraged? they had been the ones clowning me the most over the LP. THere specialty is marking up records a thousand percent if they know how much someone will pay for it. It kept fucking with me though cause they kept asking me how much I was willing to pay for it. The copy I have now was sold at that same store for six dollars a year before Matty passed away when my friend bought it. The price tag is still on the sleeve. I am trying to explain something though that It is worth so much more than any of the crappy capitalist overproduce thrash garbage from bands that try to design something so it will end up a collectable. With you guys I dont think that was the intention and thats why its worth so much more. THose records were part of something that can never be duplicated and that is why they are worth so much. Ebay is a bitch and I believe my record is a cursed copy because of the record store it was sold from. And If youre reading this Jesse grind guy or whatever. I think youre a cheezeball for buying records on ebay in the first place. If my search wasnt so difficult I dontthink it would mean as much. In the end it was my best friends in the world that replaced the memories of some of the greatest times growing up and knowing Hickey. I cant really say much more about this for fear of being incriminated. But if you want the records you should rob some dumbass that is charging way too much for them. I didnt rob any records but i know Matty would have encouraged that if I stayed out of harms way. YOu got to look and look in record stores. That is the real way and then when you fail miserably, youre friends bail you out. If there were a ton of those records I might not realize how valuable some of my closest friends. are. I love you matty luv! Peace. -B-
Hello, everyone. Have not been here in a while, no computer, fucked up drama in my life etc. But I guess it's time for an update. Sorry I haven't usedthat "journal" section with my name on it, i forgot the passwor so I'll just rap atch from here for now. First off, I was totally blown away by the post from the ladies of Whig Party, what a trip. If any of you read this, get a hold of me. Ebay still pisses me off, so I encourage anybody out there who wants to release a hickey or Fuckboyz cd or vinyl, just do so and drive down the value of the originals thus putting an end to greed and that gay collector materialist bullshit that poisons our modern world. Master the shit from whatever available source, make a cheap cover and sell 'em outta yer car. You won't get sued, be in any violation of any existing copyright law, or hafta fear retribution from any dicky lawyer. I solemnly swear. Matty would approve and probably even help you do it. With that out of the way I can tell you that I have made absolutely no progress in the dvd project, but it will happen and I assure you still no ewoks! I am very proud to announce the arrival of ROCK JACK, my 3 and a half year old son,Ezra Caligula Lux's band A CD is in the works, I recorded the basic tracks for 11 songs, Ezra will be providing his unusual vocal stylings via Pro Tools. Musically imagine Sweet meets AC/DC meets Motorhead meets The AntiNowhere League if they all were fronted by a pre-schooler. I will be doing a limited run of cdrs. Not a day goes by where I don't think of Matty, and wish he was here to laugh with me at the things that are funny and rant angry with me about the things that aren't. I really wish he was here to read "Love All the People" by Bill Hicks. He would have loved it. Best wishes to each and every person who looks at this or posts on it. To quote Ozzy "I Love You All"
i was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get a hickey shirt... ive been looking for awhile
thanks alot
Okay....So someone let the cat out of the bag and I dont think any of you are willing to pay more money for those records than me so just give up...THe fuckboyz record that popped up about fifteen minutes ago is mine..Back the fuck off...There will be no bidding against me permitted..Who is Sawtoothgrind and ersel Hickey...I dont trust any of them.

Just read about Matt on the GCL message board. We are totally bummed.Matt and Scott were our neighbors in Pembroke Pines and my band Whig Party had the distinct pleasure of playing with the F-Boyz @ Churchill's.We hope all is well with Seaweed and Aesop.

if any one knows dean burrito or brian from the turdz please give them my cell # 404 808-2883. thanx,wiL
matty luv wrote some of the wittiest song i've ever heard. i have met several people who knew matty, and they all have great stories about him. the voodoo glow skulls split is in my opinion the greatest episode in rock history.
--------morgan boyd--------
i just stumbled across this page and am truly sorry to hear about matty. i didnt know him very well but i can honestly say that the show in mobile or biloxi when they played at the 4h with quincy punks and clitoris rex gave me a whole new faith that punk rock will never die as long as we have a sense of humor about all the bull shit. I hung out with hickey at one of the turdz folks house while they fixed the vans window with a piece of plywood they found on the beach that was warped to the shape of the broke window. last time i saw them was at the cowhaus in tallahassee and ibugged matty andaesop for a naked cult of hickey poster but i was broke(just like them) and they gave me one and some patches too. what a righteous bunch of guys. you are missed,WiL
