"listen up you pansy mod boy! ill cut you from ear to ear over this white zombie shit!"
i heard this come from mattys mouth just 1 week ago. i have been a rabid hickey fan for over a year but i had never heard them live until my friend found an entire hickey set online. the setting for the set is this: the show is at a bar in california where there is to be a "secret" white zombie show. word spreads and the bar is full of gothic rednecks who gaze up on stage hoping to see the nappy grey died dread locks of rob zombie and instead set thier eyes upon matty.
it was a truly a magical moment as i heard it. i was truly moved. i have no idea why it mattered so much to me that he was acting all wild and free on stage. i guess it was because he knew what was going on and how to LIVE. you could tell that at ever moment he lived was the time of his life, and i loved him for it.
the first time i heard food stamps and drink tickets i knew that this would be the band that would change my whole outlook on existence. everytime i hear food stamps and drink tickets i start it off during the palm mutes at the beginning by telling who ever i am with, "this is the greatest song in the world?." and if im by myself, i tell myself.
theres something about the wreckless abandon about mattys studio and on stage performances that make me evaluate myself in everyday life. its so hard to explain and i dont know if i even took it like he meant it but his whole persona is so free it is all inspiring.
rip matty
Hey Matty,
I always thought u were always so polite over the phone when we talked. That time when u guys forgot your guitars, playing with the Mentors, that show at the Caravan, Pac Man in the basement of the Chameleon, fingerless cotton gloves.....everyone's a whore...u betcha.
See ya Soon...

Hey Mike, I'm in seattle.
scott jones turned me onto hickey some years ago and they've been my favorite since. what the fuck ever happened to scott jones anyway?
i lived in sanfrancisco for a while back
before the turn of the century. i stayed at the hickey house as robert's guest for the first first few months but the bed i slept in that first night was matty's. he and ro were out of town attending a harm reduction conference. i remember the drawing that was tacked on the bunk above mattys: it was done in the style ofa child's scrawl andwas a picture of a man blowing his head off with a shotgun. i was charmed. Matty was (almost always) quite the gentleman and the gracious host if some what hard to fathom with his very dry sense of humor and reserved offstage personality. what a contrast.Matty and his music were and will continue to be an inspiration.
I had this totally transcendent mushroom trip about a year ago and at some point as iwas coming back to reality after completely leaving consensus reality for a while i decided to put it this tape i had made of hickey seven inches. It made methink about matty and his legal problems of a few years back (which by the time they got to me in tulsahad been completely distortedand blown out of proportion)and i started feeling real wierdly emotional and got all choked up while i waslistening to "el farolito". For some reason, since hearing of hispassing, listening to that song is difficult for me.

this band called Neil Smith covers a fuckboyz song on his full length called "barf at the moon", he covers "thinking of me" i havent heard it but came across this while searching the net.. http://www.100punks.com/100PUNKSZINE/ZinePages/zine10/zine10.html
someone should get that and make an mp3 of the fuckboyz tune and put it up for the "covered songs" on audio/video..
i wake up and listen to hickey, i listen to hickey in my car , i listen to hickey before i go to sleep. the hickey show @ ralph's pizzeria in downtown el paso was one of the fist show i ever booked. it was the first and last time i drank cream tequila. i was 15.
man, i stumbled upon this page looking for remnants of tampa history (blue chair)i found this unfortunate suprise. i guess my experience with hickey anyway goes back to their (nameless?) beautiful individually hand screened LP. part rock opera, all fun and excellent lyrical genius. fast forward a year or so to knoxville TN. it was the night i happened to meet arron coometbus and the excellent cindy ovenrack, we all went to a hickey houseshow and were in the process of making food when ill be goddamned if matt doesnt run into the kitchen and grab some of this food (while singing) and run back out! shit that was a hell of a lot of fun and inspiring in some unexplicable way. well hell, i never knew him but from my interaction with his lyrics and that single experience he left a mark on me. to the rest us you that are still alive, have fun.
I very foolishly waited too long to order the hickey VGS split 7" from probe, and now it's gone! for some reason i thought itd always be there. but my quest to achieve every hickey record will not end til i am completed, does anybody have a spare of the record? or know someone who does? a distro? i searched and didn't see it anywhere..
does anybody have any of those live recordings of Me, You, and the Boys? I haven't heard this band yet..but was reading that big interview with matty, and he mentioned that they recorded all the shows they played, does any one have any of these recordings? I really wanna hear them..please let me know if anybody has any stuff of them?
the Destroy Records (and roach motel) website says they put out the F-Boyz sinnin' like made EP, hmmmm?
under roack store, at the bottom it says "out of print" it says "Destroy 05 - F-Boys - Sinnin' Like Mad EP"
but it says here that "truth about fonzie" put out that record?? what is that anyways?

I know that Scott Alcoholocaust had a couple of unreleased Hicky songs recorded for an aborted compilation. One was called "Hang-gliding Through the Ice Age" and I can't recall the other title, but they were, of course, amazing. If anyone knows Scott and can nudge him in the right direction, maybe the songs can be put out on a 7" or included on the upcoming covers album or something. Good luck.
