Right after Hickey broke up, this band I was in recorded a totally amazing version of "Her Prosthetic Hands" for some alleged Hickey tribute in SF. I never heard the song again, and of course the record never came out. Thinking about Hickey tonight. FSADT is like really one of my top five all time punk songs. I always thought it was thrilling and sad, and the words are perfect, and like all Hickey, there's something so totally pop like Brian Wilson beautiful running underneath the struggle to keep the guitar plugged in, or whatever othe rnonsense they're up to in the song. I saw Hicky many times and you never knew what you were going to get but you knew it would be fucking alive. Does anyone remember the time they did all Misfits songs and everyone rushed the mic and sang Astro Zombies, etc? Or when they came back from their last long tour with those beards and crazy Jim Morrison acid eyes? Do you remember when Matty put his guitar through the ceiling of the El Rio and couldn't get it out? Remember "Buck Out and Get the Fuck Out?" I'm 36 and I've still got Christmas lights up in my bedroom and it's because of nights like those. They were as deep as Flipper but probably even better. A bold statement, but fuck it. I'll jist lay that one out there. Whatever it was, that mystical rock action thing, they had it in spades, and it comes along very rarely, maybe nevermore, and it's cool to have the records and all, but those nights live in the mind and other passages.

Okay..well fine..seems to be too many fuckin squares churning into this site and bitchin all this bullshit about ebay this and ebay that. Well thank you very much. By repressing the Lp you can almost guarantee that even more shit will pop up on fucking ebay. To my knowledge, the LP has never once been sold on ebay and that doesnt mean that you cant still find it. You fuckers are just fucking lazy. You gotta want it. Its not a record that you need to own if the only way you can get it is from ebay or the clown that represses something that he feels everyone needs to have. Ive never seen a better way to sabotage a cult then too commodify its artifacts. Why would you make all the covers different in the first place if some guy ten years later was gonna come and fuck with it. If you were punk you would have just bootlegged that shit 5 years ago. The question is why does everyone all of a sudden care so much now? cause its been ten years? and its like a limited edition where all the profits go to you fucking know where? you want your stupid little label on the back of something thats not yours. You didnt really think that people arent gonna hate you? You need some friends man. your label is too shifty and shaky too put out this record. the bootleg should be done by someone that cares with the funds and not just some smart ass punk that posts on a fucking messageboard all" Guess what Guys?! Im repressing this shit that you really like so everyone else will know why this band was so special to you. Well I guess you fucked that up too. Ill be the first fucking record snob that will put up original Hickey LPs on ebay in exchange for the brand new shiny ones. I hope I can get 8 million dollars for em and that Britney Spears gets em. and fuck you!

im sorry i havnt made good on my offer to send out copies of the old 7inches ive got stored away someplace. you see most of my stuff has been in storage for over a year now and some of my crap is still at my old house. so it could be that those boxes are lost and gone forever. but maybe someday these boxes will resurface and if they do...well we can deal with that when and if it happens.

again, im sorry!

In petes defense, he DID single handedly make the price of the Hickey LP go up on the westcoast and ebay. but only because he's uber hickey fan #1! i mean, check out his left arm! thats a line for every lesser hickey fan he had to waste, including people who only like yogurt!

Let me say that I approved of these reissues as I trust that 123 Go, and LOTD are not greedy, fly-by-night assholes. The fuckers are the collector nerds who care little about the music and art and just pass the stuff along on eBay for unreasonable prices. If people want to just own it for 'cool' points, then they deserve to be taken by these ghouls, however if someone wants the music, art, and what not to enjoy at face value, then these reissues will provide that. As for Bearded Pete's statement, what kind of elitist shit is that, man. There are alot of kids who are interested in Hickey now who were like 3 when we existed, they too deserve to hear the rock. I suppose that you own no reissues of any punk record? I find that hard to believe. Anyways, Steve told me that after we make our first million from this endeavor he's going to buy us all unicorns, gimme a break. If you yourself already own the originals, and don't want to buy the reissue for the extra tracks then don't. As a music fan, I am thankful for stuff being reissued, so long as it is true to the artist's original vision. Have you seen the prices of some of the original Sun Ra recordings? Um, I'll take the reissues. That's all I care to say on the matter.

Fuck yeah on the re-issues! I only had one 7" of theirs because the few times I got to see them I was a broke teenager. And I lost that thing years ago. I've burned a ton of Hickey/Boyz/Yogurt cds for friends over the years, younger kids an' stuff, and I think there are a lot of people out there now that would very much appreciate being able to throw that shit on the turntable and drink a 40 for once! YES!

Well, Steve pretty much covered it, but I have to say, I find it pretty absurd someone would get so upset over these reissues. This isn't being done to make a bunch of money, despite what you might think.

Anyone who has had anything to do with releasing records the past 5 years knows that cd sales are consistently declining and that releasing vinyl is about the dumbest thing you can do if you want your label to turn a profit (unless you are doing limited edition sXe hardcore releases). These records are being reissued because of #1, our love for the records, and #2 the absurd collector prices people are paying on ebay for Hickey records shows that there are people who want to have an actual hard copy of the art/lyrics/liner notes in their hands and not just a poor quality digital file on their Ipod.

Obviously, anyone who just wants to hear the songs can just come here and download them. Awesome! I know I feel this way and I bet Steve does to, that even if only 5 people buy these reissues it will still have been worthwhile. It's nice to know though that for the handful of people that do care about a record as a whole package, they will be able to own this music that was so important to so many of us without dropping $100 on ebay.

I think re-releases are great, I mean, I loved what George Lucas did to the original Star Wars. Maybe somebody will re-release Citizen Kane and Rosebud won't be the sleigh he had when he was a kid, but the name of an emo band that sings Christmas Carols.

Maybe after Stevo re-releases Various States, he can get P Diddy to cover the whole album and get J Lo to sing all the songs. Yeah, that'd be a must-have.

And I'm not being sarcastic or anything.

Firstly to say that anyone who doesn't already have a record doesn't deserve it is utter selfish cockery founded in nothing but poindexterism. Secondly anyone who runs a small record label knows that making money...even if it was a top priority...is pretty fucking unlikely. You do it because you want to put out music you love. Thirdly there are some of us out there who don't think having files on a hard drive is a substitute for having the record. Having a Hickey record with out the artwork is having half the record. Fourthly shit talking and arguing on a guestbook is for weiners and is a poor substitute for listening to T. Rex

so...i was totally in love with matty like,i dunno,i wanna say about 15 years ago.that sounds crazy.the fuckboyz used to play in san jose a lot,and we wrote each other letters once a week.he also wrote a song for me in georgia(well,so he said)it's an awesome song.anyways,i saved all of his letters and drawings.
once, when he was in florida at his parents house,i asked him to send me a picture of himself when he was a kid,he sent me a picture of him and scotty.he had a broken leg,and was wearing a kiss shirt.must have been like 12 or so.real cute stuff.he said he was going to put one of my letters in a special box at his parents house,so that some day he couls find it again and remember that someone really liked him once.i shall never forget him.luv him.

WHY YOU BEING SUCH A DICK?
sephim February 19, 2006 at 6:28 PM
I don't think he is, I think maybe Pete's point is that it's a pretty off way to make some money re-releasing a CD most of us already own or can download for FREE here if we don't have a copy, all for the sake of an extra 5 songs that we may or may not have already heard.

But that's just my opinion.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to update you guys on the status of Hickey Re-issues and one new disc. Firstly I'm taking over the S/T LP on CD and Left Off The Dial will be reissuing it on LP. Secondly a new 18 track CD of stuff that wasn't on Various States including 5 or so songs no one has heard. Thirdly the reissue of various states in it's original form. There's 42 minutes of extra stuff that wasn't on Various States so it seems like a better idea to do it justice and put it out on it's own. The first volume of Various States will feature some restored artwork though to put right some of the various printing fuck ups of the past. It'll also be reissued on vinyl by Left Off The Dial. The S/T CD will be out at the end of March or early April at the latest. Both the Various States CD's will be out later in the year. Some time during the summer. I'll post here as I get a closer to a specific date. But check www.1234gorecords.com and www.leftoffthedial.net from time to time as well. The curse will be broken and these records will actually come out!

About a week ago I woke up from a dream about touring with Matty! We were at a little dive bar talking with Johnny Cash who happened to be there that night drinkin. The three of us talked like we were all old buddies. We eventually jumped back in our van and drove to Atlanta. After that some obsurd story continued. But hell yea, was it good to hang out with Matty! I got a good feeling him and Johnny are stickin it to the man.
